What is a tourada à corda?

The tourada à corda is the Azores’ bull run on a rope through the street, above all on Terceira. A bull, its horns capped, runs through the village streets on a long rope round its neck, which the pastores, the herders, hold from behind.

The crowd and the capinhas, the men who play the bull, often with an umbrella, meet it in the street. The bull is not killed. The season runs from 1 May to 15 October, and many touradas are part of the parish and Holy Spirit festas.
